The company considering High Point for an expansion that would involve economic-development incentives in return for a $17 million investment and 32 new jobs is a Canadian firm that deals in photovoltaic structures and installation, Triad Business Journal has learned.
OpSun Systems of Quebec City specializes in racking for solar systems that can generate power on both sides of the panels, known as bifacial. They can take advantage of light reflected from roofs, for example, to increase power output.
The company was identified in a document that was mistakenly placed on the High Point website due to a software glitch and since taken down.
The same document that identified OpSun Systems also outlined another potential expansion, which would come with 43 jobs and an investment of about $8.12 million over five years. The company was identified as Cascade Die Casting, a Michigan-based company that has operations at 1800 Albertson Road in High Point.
High Point City Council and Guilford County commissioners have been briefed on the proposals. No one with the city or county identified the companies to Triad Business Journal.
OpSun Systems is considering a site it would lease in High Point. A Guilford County public-hearing notice published Monday afternoon says county commissioners will consider an economic development incentive grant for the company identified by the code name of Project Insulation, the same name used in the High Point document.
The notice said the company is considering an expansion at 772 Gallimore Dairy Road, a parcel whose listed owner is D1 Capital LLC and which contains a 2023 building of about 120,000 square feet, according to Guilford County property records. The hearing is scheduled for April 17.
OpSun says on its website that its racking is made in the U.S. with a completely U.S. supply chain.
High Point city economic development staff are recommending that City Council offer the company an economic-development incentive, while Guilford County may offer a separate incentive, and the project may be eligible for state incentives. Some forms of state incentives depend on local inducements.
There is no indication of other sites the company may be considering for its expansion.
Attempts to reach the company were unsuccessful. A phone message and email to the company had not been returned as of publication. The story will be updated if Opsun responds.
Cascade Die Casting, based in Grand Rapids, produces aluminum and zinc castings for a variety of industries, including automotive, appliances, furniture, medical, consumer electronics, gaming and off-road vehicles.
The company announced an expansion in High Point 10 years ago this month after considering sites in Mexico and Michigan. High Point offered $475,000 worth of incentives at the time.
A phone message left for the company Monday was not returned by publication time.

HIGH POINT, N.C. - North Carolina track and field has had at least two throwers move up or in the Carolina record book for the second straight weekend in a row.
Men's hammer started the day off strong as all of the throwers finished in the top six of their respective sections. Ty Castro (54.00m) and Sam Romerhaus (53.22m) finished fifth and sixth in the elite section. Myles Scott (47.44m) notched his second straight personal best mark to finish in fourth.
Kate Joyce (55.40m) launched a personal best throw in the women's javelin as she moved into second all-time at Carolina.
McKynzie Mauney unleashed a 5.6m PR to win the women's hammer throw for her second straight PR in as many weeks.
Kosi Umerah moved into seventh all-time as she won the elite section of the women's hammer.

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The fourth-ranked North Carolina men's lacrosse team cruised to a 14-2 victory over High Point on Friday night, in nonconference action.
With the win, the Tar Heels improve to 7-1 on the campaign.
How It Happened • Carolina scored two of the game's first three goals, courtesy of Owen Duffy and Dominic Pietramala, leading by one with 8:52 remaining in the opening quarter. • The Tar Heels closed the frame on a 3-0 burst, with Duffy, James Matan and Pietramala hitting the back of the net, holding a 5-1 edge after one. • Duffy and Mason Szewczyk capitalized in the second quarter, with the visiting Tar Heels leading at the half, 7-2. • In the third, two goals from Ty English, and a score each from Dewey Egan and Dominic Pietramala helped Carolina outscore the Panthers 4-0 in the quarter, leading 11-2 entering the fourth. • Caden Harshbarger, Matan and Brevin Wilson scored in the fourth for the Tar Heels, who outscored High Point 7-0 in the second half.
Tar Heel Performances • Duffy and Pietramala each scored a hat trick in the matchup, with English and Matan posting two goals apiece. • Spencer Wirtheim led all players with three assists. • Brady Wambach (8-17) and Colin Hannigan (3-3) helped the Tar Heels win the faceoff battle. • Chase Cellucci and Paul Barton each posted three caused turnovers. • Michael Gianforcaro and Kent Goode combined for 11 saves on the night.
Inside The Numbers • Carolina leads the all-time series, 8-1. Friday was the first contest on the road at High Point since 2022. • Duffy has 23 points in the last four games, an average of 5.75 points per game. • The Tar Heel defense did not allow a goal from the 5:49 mark in the second quarter, through the end of the game. The scoreless span lasted the remaining 35:49 in the contest. • The second half for the Tar Heel defense was the first time not allowing a goal in a half since facing Hofstra in 2013 (second half). • Friday was the third-fewest goals allowed in a single game in program history.

"I'm feeling relieved," Head Coach Alan Huss stated. "As a college basketball coach, you move from task to task and there's very little time to be down and not have something to think about. It's nice to have an opponent to focus on. We will turn all of our attention towards preparing for Purdue."

Last Time Out High Point defeated Winthrop 81-69 in the Big South Championships on Sunday, March 9 in Johnson City, Tennessee. The Panthers erased a 15-point deficit in the second half and were crowned the Big South Champions for the first time in program history. The Panthers were led by Bobby Pettiford with 17 points, three rebounds and four assists, and was named the Tournament MVP and All-Tournament Team. Kimani Hamilton and Kezza Giffa were also named to the Big South All-Tournament team.
About the Boilermakers Purdue finished the 2024-25 season sixth in the Big 10 conference with an overall record of 22-11 and 13-7 in league play. The Boilermakers are led by Trey Kaufman-Renn in scoring and on the boards, averaging 20.2 points and 6.2 rebounds. Purdue averages 77.9 points per game on 49.0% shooting from the field. The Boilermakers are coached by Matt Painter who is in his 20th season with an overall record of 447-203.
