RALEIGH, NC – NC State Baseball will take a break from conference play and travel to Greenville for a midweek matchup against East Carolina on Tuesday, Apr. 8^th, at 6 p.m. from Lewis Field at Clark-LeClair Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with the radio call on WKNC 88.1 FM and the Varsity Network app.

Since their first meeting in 1957, NC State has a 71-44 record against the Pirates. The Wolfpack will be looking for their first win against ECU since 2023 after the Pirates took both meetings last season. Since 1990, NC State has been 14-13 playing in Greenville; this will be the first of two meetings this season, with ECU visiting Raleigh on April 22^nd.

NC State is coming off its third ACC series win of the season after taking two out of three against Virginia. In game three against the Cavaliers, the Wolfpack erased an 8-2 deficit in the game's last three innings with the help of a Drew Lanphere pinch-hit grand slam and a Josh Hogue two-out three-run walk-off home run.

Lanphere came on in the seventh, and his grand slam was not only his first home run of the season but also extended his on-base streak to 16 games, which is tied for the longest this season by a Wolfpack player.

Josh Hogue's walk-off home run gave him 10 games with multiple RBIs, which leads NC State. He is on a six-game hitting streak entering Tuesday's game and is one of four players this season to have double-digit multi-hit games. He leads the team in doubles (13) and total bases (66).

Sunday's comeback was the ninth time NC State has come back to win this season and the first win when trailing after the eighth inning.

Justin DeCriscio hit home runs in back-to-back games over the weekend. He has a .596 SLG% to lead the team and is one of the country's toughest batters to strike out. In 99 at-bats, DeCriscio has struck out just seven times, putting him second in the ACC and 25^th in the nation in the category.

Before this weekend, freshman Tristan Potts had just pitched in two-thirds of an inning, throwing a total of 10 pitches. Against Virginia, Potts came out of the bullpen in games two and three, throwing two scoreless innings, striking out a batter, and allowing just one base runner to help keep the deficit at two.

Following their starts over the weekend, Dominic Fritton and Ryan Marohn each rank among the top 35 nationally in strikeouts. Frinton is 19^th with 62 punchouts, and Marohn has 36, placing him 35^th. Both are among the top 10 in the conference and Fritton leads the ACC in innings pitched.

Fritton was named a Midseason Second Team All-American by D1 Baseball last week. D1 Baseball also released their midseason position player rankings, with six Wolfpack players ranked. GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The Greenville City Council voted 4-2 to deny an amendment change that would have allowed Camping World to keep flying the giant American flag at its Greenville location.

The vote came Thursday night during after a public hearing on a new ordinance to amend the regulations for “Official government flags” in six commercial and industry zoning areas.

The amendment, if approved, would have defined the maximum allowable size of a flagpole height “not to exceed 130 feet at grade” and a maximum flag size of “no more than 3,200 square feet.”

The flag sparked controversy when Camping World put it up back in October as councilmembers say is nearly the size of a basketball court at 3,200 square feet and violates city code.

The flag has been flying on a pole that stands 130 feet, almost double the size of the current regulations.

Councilmembers voiced their opposition to the amendment voicing that it isn’t about patriotism but what is permissible under the law.

Matthew Scully read emails from constituents and voiced his opposition.

“To my fellow citizens, I believe we need to do what it right,” he said. “We need to uphold our laws and demand that every citizen and business follow the law, and when laws need to be changed we have a democratic process that allows for that change. Camping World broke the law. It’s not about patriotism, it’s about using our sacred flag to create controversy and division to gain more exposure and ultimately to make more money. I believe this is true because they’ve done this all over the country. If they had followed the law and applied for appropriate text amendment for construction we probably would’ve passed it.”

Marion Blackburn said “When someone breaks the law do we throw up our hands and say ‘oh well I guess we have to change the law for them?’ If they wrap themselves up in a flag when they break the law does that make it ok?”

Last month Greenville’s Planning & Zoning Commission voted 5-4 to deny the approval of the text amendment.

Mayor P.J. Connelly shared a different message from his colleagues during and after the meeting voicing that Greenville should move on.

“I think that the city council in my personal decision made the wrong decision tonight,” he said. “I felt like it was ok to be able to the fly the flag and come up with a text amendment that would allow them to do it. Still make them pay the fines because I think it’s important that you fill out the wrong permit you do have to pay those fines. But I felt like it’s important for us to move on as a community we spend a tremendous amount of time talking about this and I don’t think it’s a good use of our time as a city.”

The city started fining the business in January because the flag is nearly 15 times bigger than the largest flag currently allowed on non-residential property.

The city says Camping World has been cited a total of $8,900. Camping World has only paid $650, which covers the first 4 citations.

During the public hearing, no one spoke in favor of the applicant Camping World, but multiple people spoke against the ordinance.

With the vote, Camping World’s flag still violates the City of Greenville’s current pole and flag size and exceeds the size originally applied for in their permit.

With the flag amendment voted against, there is now the possibility of discussion for future legal action and litigation.

Greenville's eastside medical district has high interest from a North Carolina-based non-profit wellness group as Novant Health filed to build a $132 million, 20-bed hospital near Patewood Drive.

The proposed medical facility would provide the property near Interstate 385 with state-of-the-art operating rooms, diagnostic imaging, and outpatient and specialty care services in Greenville.

Novant's proposed plan would require an agreement from the South Carolina Office of Regulatory Staff and would also look to build an additional health care and office building at 221 Patewood Drive, which would fall outside the scope of the $132 million private investment.

"I look forward to working with our Greenville team to bring new, more affordable healthcare options to communities in the Upstate," said Ryan Lee, the newly appointed Greenville region president for Novant Health.

“I’m incredibly excited to join Novant Health’s efforts to expand healthcare access in the Upstate and to be part of such a thriving, fast-growing community."

If Novant Health receives approval on a certificate of need application from the South Carolina Department of Public Health, the nonprofit hospital would likely open in early 2027.

This proposed investment builds upon Novant Nealth's February 2024 acquisition of the East Cooper Medical Center in Charleston, Hilton Head Medical Center, and Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville. Since the 2024 acquisition, Novant Health has added three hospitals, 52 doctors' care offices, 27 physician offices, and 20 physical therapy clinics across South Carolina.

In September 2024, Novant Health announced plans to build a new full-service community hospital campus in Bluffton.

Thus far, the Upstate has seen six locations of doctor's care urgent care clinics and physical care clinics added as part of Novant's UCI Medical Affiliates network.

NC State defeated in-state foe ECU (20-14) 4-1 in Greenville this evening, improving to 22-11 on the year.

Anderson Nance, one of the best freshman pitchers in the ACC in 2025, lived up to that reputation tonight. Entering the game in the 4th inning, Nance pitched five scoreless innings, allowing only a lone single in the bottom of the 8th. He threw 80 pitches—his second-highest total of the year—striking out five while walking none. Nance now boasts a 3.37 ERA and a 4-1 record, tying Junior Dominic Fritton for the most wins on the team, which is impressive considering he has only started one game.

Junior outfielder Josh Hogue, Senior shortstop Justin DeCriscio, and Junior third baseman Matt Heavner accounted for the Wolfpack’s three RBIs. Hogue, who has now homered in back-to-back games, led off with a solo home run in the top of the 1st to get things started. He finished the game 2 for 5 and is now batting .314, leading the team with 7 home runs.

Heavner’s sacrifice bunt in the top of the 2nd brought Redshirt Sophomore catcher Drew Lanphere across the plate, giving NC State a 2-0 lead. In the top of the 9th, with a 2-run lead, DeCriscio provided a little cushion with an RBI single, bringing home Freshman center fielder Ty Head. DeCriscio is making the most of his final collegiate year after transferring to Raleigh from San Diego this offseason. He is batting .304 with an OPS of 1.014, which is the highest mark of his career and leads all starters.

Sophomore Chris McHugh continues to swing a hot bat, going 2 for 5, with both hits being singles. McHugh is now batting .350, which leads the team.

Sophomore Jacob Dudan secured his second save of the season, and his first since March 7th, by throwing a scoreless 9th. He allowed zero hits or walks and struck out two. Dudan has been methodically lowering his ERA after a rough start to the season, which now stands at 4.50.

Starter Cooper Consiglio, while not extremely impressive, delivered his best outing since March 11th. He allowed only one earned run in two innings of work but did walk three batters (1 K). Consiglio now has a 7.29 ERA, a 2.10 WHIP, and opposing batters are hitting .302 against him.

The Wolfpack will now prepare to host the Louisville Cardinals for a three-game series in Raleigh this weekend, with the first pitch for Game 1 set for 6 pm.

NC Health Provider Eyes Greenville SC’s Eastside Medical District

Novant Health wants to build a 20-bed, $132 million hospital in Greenville, South Carolina, its first in the Upstate region.

The Post and Courier reported Novant Health plans to build its first Upstate hospital — and a separate, 100,000-square-foot health care and office building — in the medical district on Patewood Drive off Interstate 385.

It reported the plan will require state regulators' approval.

Business North Carolina and The Post and Courter reported Novant Health submitted its Certificate of Need application for the hospital to the South Carolina Department of Public Health in February. The media outlets said a decision is likely as soon as this summer.

BNC and The Post and Courier also reported the hospital is planned on a 12-acre property across from hospitals run by Prisma Health and Bon Secours, Greenville’s two largest health-care providers. BNC said Novant Health purchased the site for $17 million last year.

Novant Health is the second-largest hospital operator based in North Carolina behind Advocate Health, which owns Atrium Health. The Winston-Salem-based system bought three hospitals in coastal South Carolina for $2.4 billion in early 2024, according to BNC.

BNC reported robust profits are fueling Novant’s growth - $920 million of net income, or an excess of revenues over expenses, on operating revenues of almost $10.2 billion in 2024. The profit included $556 million in operating income and $363.5 million in investment income and other nonoperating income.

Novant Health has 19 hospitals, more than 900 locations and 40,000 employees. It is a dominant hospital operator in the Charlotte, Triad and Wilmington, North Carolina, areas.

BNC and The Post and Courier reported Greenville County faces a shortage of 111 hospital beds, according to the 2024 South Carolina Health Plan. The region is among the fastest-growing parts of South Carolina.

Prisma Health is a private, not-for-profit health organization formed by the merger of Greenville Health System and Palmetto Health in 2017.

Bon Secours Mercy Health is one of the largest U.S. Catholic-affiliated healthcare systems. It is based in Cincinnati.

Credit One Bank Extends Title Rights of Credit One Charleston Open, Commits to Equal Prize Money for 2026

Credit One Bank has extended its title partnership with the Credit One Charleston Open through 2031 and, with this new commitment, will provide equal prize money to players starting in 2026.

Officials said this milestone reflects the bank's ongoing commitment to gender equality in sports and further solidifies Charleston's role as a leader on the Hologic WTA Tour.

With this move, the Credit One Charleston Open, North America's largest women's-only professional tennis tournament, becomes the first standalone WTA 500 tournament to voluntarily increase prize money prior to the 2033 deadline for all single-week WTA 1000 and 500 events to reward equal prize money.

“Credit One is proud to reaffirm our sponsorship of this premier all-women's tennis tournament through 2031,” said Amber Greenwalt, SVP of Brand and Advertising for Credit One Bank.

“Just as the Credit One Charleston Open has built a legacy of empowerment since 1973, Credit One is also dedicated to fostering momentum and celebrating achievements by empowering people in their financial journeys.”

The tournament has a long history of breaking new ground in tennis, having been the first women's tennis event to offer $100,000 in prize money in 1973 and the first to be broadcast live on network television.

The inaugural champion, Rosie Casals, received a check for $30,000, which was the largest prize money payout awarded to a woman that year.

The prize money for the 2025 Credit One Charleston Open was $1,064,510.

In 2026, the prize money would have been approximately $1.15 million, but in a commitment to equal pay, the purse will be increased to match ATP 500's, which typically offer more than $2 million in prize money.

The ATP Tour is the governing body for men's professional tennis.

The exact purse for the 2026 Credit One Charleston Open will be finalized once the official prize money figures for the 2026 season are released.

“The Credit One Charleston Open has always been at the forefront of promoting women in sports, and we're incredibly proud of our legacy. We've broken attendance records year after year, drawing more than 90,000 attendees and 26 million international television viewers,” said Navarro.

Navarro added, “As North America's largest women's-only tennis tournament and one of the longest-running women's-only events in professional sports, we're not just celebrating the past -- we're actively shaping the future.”

The Credit One Charleston Open is the kick-off event of the clay season on the Hologic WTA Tour. The tournament was recently named the WTA 500 Tournament of the Year for the third consecutive year.

The nine-day Credit One Charleston Open showcases a singles draw of 48 players, a qualifying draw of 28 players and a doubles draw of 16 players.

Formerly known as the Family Circle Cup and Volvo Car Open, the event relocated to Charleston in 2001 from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022.

Palmetto Plastics Innovations Establishing Operations in Jasper County

Palmetto Plastics Innovations, a plastic extrusion manufacturer, announced April 9, 2025, it is establishing operations in Jasper County.

The company’s state-of-the-art thermoforming facility will create 28 jobs, according to Gov. Henry McMaster’s office.

Palmetto Plastics manufactures fill and drift eliminators for the cooling tower industry. Officials said the company’s products are vital plastic components for systems used in power plants, manufacturing facilities, universities and hospitals.

Palmetto Plastics will own a new 30,000-square-foot manufacturing facility located at 402 Marble Road in Hardeeville.

The state’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to the project.

The council also awarded a $100,000 Set-Aside grant to Jasper County to assist with the costs of site preparation and building construction.

Habitat for Humanity of Greenville Teams Up With 10 Credit Unions

On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, members of the Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County team joined with staff and leadership of 10 local credit unions to raise a wall (and a family) up in the Nicholtown community of Greenville.

This is the latest house started by Habitat Greenville in the heart of this historic community. When finished, it will welcome the 15th Habitat family into a neighborhood where everyone now owns their own home.

“This section of Nicholtown was once apartments that aged well past their normal life span,” said LaTonya Phillips, Habitat Greenville’s president and CEO.

“With the help of our donors, we have transformed this part of the community.”

The staff from Carolina Foothills Credit Federal Credit Union, Vizo Financial Corporate Credit Union, Spero Financial, MTC Federal Credit Union, South Carolina Federal Credit Union, CPM Federal Credit Union, Truliant Federal Credit Union, Sharonview Federal Credit Union, Carolina Credit Union League and Greenville Federal Credit Union framed the walls of the house throughout the morning.
