Deadly Truck Accident in Wendell NC

A violent North Carolina truck accident caused fatal injuries on August 1, 2012. The collision occurred on US 64 Bypass early Wednesday morning at about 12:40 a.m. News accounts and police investigators indicate that the incident resulted in failure to yield during a lane change. The driver of the tractor trailer tried to switch lanes and struck another vehicle traveling in the same direction causing the car to overturn. The driver of the car died of injuries suffered in the accident. It is not known if the truck driver sustained any personal injury as a result of the subject collision.

Although the driver of the car was next to the truck and driving in the truck driver's "blind spot", elliptical mirrors and side view cameras have effected eliminated this danger for commercial truck drivers. Simply put, the truck driver has a strict legal duty to ensure that the lane he seeks to move into is ENTIRELY clear of traffic BEFORE he begins to merge. Unfortunately, truck drivers commonly signal and merge simultaneously, and the often start to check their side view mirrors only after they have initiated a lane change.

Based on the reported facts, this was senseless crash that could have easily been avoided by the truck driver.
